Minutes from the April 11, 1997 Meeting

The semi-annual meeting of the Inland Northwest Acoustical Society was held on April 11, 1997 at Brink Hall on the University of Idaho campus.

At the business meeting Jeff Burnett gave the treasurer's report, noting a balance of $571, less the cost of the meeting. A call for nominations went out at the meeting for election of officers, to happen this spring. The current slate of officers was placed in nomination, and other nominations will be requested by e-mail. Thus the current nominees are Mike Anderson (President), David Lewis (Vice President), Jeff Burnett (Treasurer), and Tony Seikel (Secretary).

Dues for the chapter remain at $5.00 per year, and this amount remains within the chapter. It was reported that John Schneider will represent the Inland Chapter at the Penn State ASA meeting.

At the meeting members discussed ways of increasing participation at future meetings. Some suggestions included use of the electronic classroom facilities and providing more information to members concerning the role and function of the chapter. It was suggested that we avoid meetings late in the Spring semester, and that Fridays are probably the best days. We will attempt to get a "head count" prior to the meetings in the future. We also discussed the Chapter web page and its content. It will soon be linked to the National web page of ASA.

The business meeting was followed by a technical presentation on time compressed speech by Nancy Vaughan, an audiologist from Washington State University, Spokane.
